QUEEN'S PARK - On October 30, before the Minister of Finance presented the Fall Economic Statement, I asked him if the government was going to course-correct and start focusing on the priorities of everyday people in this province.
Ontario used to be the economic engine of Canada. Under Doug Ford's government, we have become a "have-not" province that goes cap-in-hand to the federal government. Our equalization payments from the feds are up to $576 million a year because of our "low fiscal capacity".
Now, the premier wants to send $200 to everyone in Ontario, to the tune of $3 billion.
While this government subsidizes a European spa at Ontario Place, 28,000 people are waiting for supportive housing. Between the debacle with paper bags at the LCBO and Doug Ford's fantasy tunnel, where are this government’s priorities?
The Ontario NDP understands what's important to you: We’ll build homes, hire doctors, fix schools, and make life more affordable.
