This petition is the result of numerous calls from frustrated constituents to my office. These constituents have struggled to resolve separations and establish a consistent support payment agreement that is honoured by all parties involved.
In Ontario there have been numerous cases where incorrect court applications, multiple court applications, misinformation, delaying tactics, and other forms of court harassment are used to further non-compliance of family court orders. Ontario is not the only province that has experienced these misuses of the judicial system, and other provinces such as BC are enacting legislation to stop family court harassment.
Please join me in demanding that Ontario establish family court harassment legislation by signing and sharing this petition.
Dear Minister Naqvi
Whereas Ontario does not have family court specific court harassment legislation, and;
Whereas Ontario family courts are overburdened with malicious applications resulting in lengthy wait-times, and;
Whereas there are roughly 54,000 cases of non-compliance with family court orders in Ontario, and;
Whereas there have been numerous cases where incorrect court applications, multiple court applications, misinformation, delaying tactics and other forms of court harassment are used to further non-compliance of family court orders, and;
Whereas British Columbia has enacted family court harassment specific legislation and it has proven successful in reducing family court wait times and instances of non-compliance.
I, the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to pass family court specific court harassment legislation to prohibit the misuse of Ontario’s judicial system.
