QUEEN’S PARK — Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, issued the following response to the Ford Conservatives’ Greenbelt legislation:
“Today is significant for every citizen, environmentalist, housing advocate and farmer who stood up to the Conservatives’ dirty Greenbelt Grab. We came together, pushed back, and we won.
The Ford Conservatives’ corruption scandal has set Ontario back years on building the homes our province so desperately needs. The Conservatives ignored critical recommendations from its own housing affordability task force. Housing starts are down. This government's housing policy is failing.
And Mr. Ford's dirty deals go beyond the Greenbelt. He continues to force municipalities to build on prime farmland to benefit some of the very same land speculators, even as his government is being investigated by the RCMP.
Mr. Ford has shown his true colours: he puts the interests of a few of his well-connected insiders above everyone else, and everyone else in Ontario suffers.”
