Re: World Autism Awareness Day

Dear families of children with autism,

In light of the Ford Government’s recent dismantling of Ontario’s autism program, I want to contact you directly today to promise that I haven’t given up the fight in Waterloo or at Queen’s Park. So far your letters, rallies, and petitions have helped to effect some change, but we all know this fight is far from over.

The bravery and tenacity shown by every one of you is truly remarkable; families like yours are an inspiration to all Ontarians who deserve better from their provincial government.

So many children across our region and our province experience various forms of discrimination every single day. We’re so lucky in Waterloo to have so many autism advocates fighting for equality – thank you.

On this World Autism Awareness Day, I want to commend you for being strong advocates for yourselves, your children, and everyone involved in this fight. We are in this together, and we will not stop until we get needs based, equitable and comprehensive treatment for your children.

I lend my full support and give families of autism my renewed commitment to continue to fight alongside them.

Sincerely,

Catherine Fife, MPP
