WATERLOO – “I am deeply concerned by the news that more than 600 jobs will be cut at the GM CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll. Ingersoll is the latest community in Southwestern Ontario that now has to struggle with the loss of good paying jobs, leaving more than 600 families with an uncertain future.
New Democrats support the employees of the GM plant in Ingersoll, their families and the community.
We will continue to hold the Wynne Liberal government accountable for its failure to create an auto jobs strategy to keep and create auto jobs in Ontario.
While families are suffering the news of these job cuts, Premier Wynne is writing open letters about the strength of the auto industry in Ontario. Premier Wynne is clearly out of touch with the reality facing families in Southwestern Ontario, and needs to take concrete action now to begin protecting auto jobs in the province.
News like this gives people cause to be worried about the future. They want to know there will be good jobs for the next generation. The cost of hydro is a big concern for businesses across Ontario. One thing the Premier can do immediately to help protect and create good jobs is to get hydro costs under control and stop the sell-off of Hydro One.”
