To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS water capacity has become one of the most significant barriers to new housing construction and job-creating investment;
WHEREAS aging systems, rising servicing costs, and urgent housing pressures have created a level of demand that traditional approaches can no longer meet on their own;
WHEREAS Waterloo Region is in a water supply crisis, forcing the pause of all new developments and home construction;
WHEREAS Waterloo Region’s water system is among the most groundwater-dependent of Ontario’s urban regions, with approximately 80% of drinking water drawn from aquifers—
principally the Waterloo Moraine—and the balance from the Grand River;
WHEREAS without adequate servicing, communities cannot grow, businesses cannot expand, and Ontario’s economic potential is undermined.
Therefore, we the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
- Strategically invest in water infrastructure;
- Immediately pause the relentless commercial water taking permits;
- Reinstate environmental regulations;
- Return to evidence-based planning policies that allow for responsible and sustainable
development.
