The Ontario NDP marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Published on January 26, 2024

QUEEN’S PARK – Official Opposition Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles made the following statement to honour International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27):

“Every year, the world remembers the six million Jewish people who were murdered in the Holocaust. We also remember the millions more Slavs, ethnic Poles, Romani people, disabled people and LGBTQIA+ people whose lives were brutally ended. We honour their memory and hold a place in our hearts for the people and communities they were torn away from. The Holocaust is a stain on our collective history, and we still feel the deep impacts of it today.

With antisemitism on the rise in Ontario and across the world, we all have a responsibility to ensure that education about the Holocaust and what led to it continues, and that we stand firm against hatred and antisemitism. On behalf of Ontario’s New Democrats, I want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to combating antisemitism and remembering the horrors of the Holocaust that have collective, intergenerational trauma on the Jewish community. We will never forget.”
