Raise the “Lest We Forget” Veterans’ Flag at Queen’s Park

To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

WHEREAS Every year on Remembrance Day, Canadians honour our military’s selfless service to the nation; and

WHEREAS Veterans’ Week is when Ontarians come together to remember past and present veterans who have proudly served this great country, including many who paid the ultimate sacrifice; and

WHEREAS the "Lest We Forget" flag is a symbol used to honour veterans, active members of the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as First Responders, and their families, recognizing their sacrifices, dedication, and service to our communities and country throughout history; and

WHEREAS veterans’ service should be recognized and honoured at Queen’s Park; and

WHEREAS more of Canada's veterans live in Ontario than any other province; and

WHEREAS the governments of British Columbia and Nova Scotia immediately agreed to raise the "Lest We Forget" flag upon being asked by veterans from Ontario, but their own province has not done so; and

We the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to raise a “Lest We Forget” veterans’ poppy flag at Queen’s Park on the last Friday of October each year, which will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset for Remembrance Day, at which time it will be fully raised again. The flag will be lowered and removed on November 12.
